The biggest and almost intact natural area is located in Komi Republic. Territory is acknowledged as the only place in Europe with primevalness of wild nature. Komi virgin forests are in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (read about UNESCO sites in Russia here).

The republic is located away from industrial objects and is difficult to approach. To some areas it's only possible to get by ski, horse or boat.

Unique Komi forests are divided in two natural territories: national park Yugyd-Va and Pechoro-Ylych Nature Reserve.
Pechoro-Ylych Nature Reserve is situated in the Western part of Northern Ural. Its land area is 721,3 thousand ha.

On upland Manlupner there is park's main point of interest - picturesque Weathering Pillars. As a result of rapid temperature changes and influence of moist rock formations deteriorated slowly. That's how these fantastic residual mountains were originated.

On the territory of the park heads big river Pechora with clean, polluted water and plenty of fish (jack-fish, cisco, perch, asp etc.). Salmon fishing is prohibited.

During 70 years in the natural park is being developed unique program for domestication of mooses. It was believed that these sturdy animals could serve people for transportation, but the idea lost its topicality with expansion of snowmobiles. Now work for domestication of mooses still goes goes on. As a result of researches it was found out that milk of mooses has plenty of beneficial qualities. There are tours to the moose farm.

Natural Park Yugyd-Va takes 1891,7 thousand ha, it is the biggest forested area in Europe. There is located the highest point of Ural - Narodnaya mountain (1896 meters).

The pearl of the park is Manaraga mountain with six peaks. In the mountains there are 38 glaciers, the most famous is Gofman glacier on mountain ridge Sablya. There are more than 800 of mountain lakes (Gornoye, Okunievoye, Balanty).
