Russia the Beautiful

I have been there in summer as a child and I have wonderful memories about it. But I still hope to get there in winter one day. My grandma used to tell me that the ice is so thick and clear, that you can stand on it and watch underwater life :) I guess it's a myth, but still ice of Baikal is a real wonder.Baikal: the most beautiful frozen lake on this planet
IMHO, Sergiev Posad is the brightest city in Moscow oblast.Strolling Sergiev Posad

I agree, there is no need for colors when the shapes can make such a statement here!Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
And sometimes they are just wooden and have no colour at all... But rave of shapes makes your forget about colours :)Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
That's definitely a very nice church! I must admit, I have not seen that many one color orthodox churches. The one in the city I grew up in was all white, but the roofs were golden. The other one had round blue rooftops. Looked beautiful.Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"

I'm not a specialist in architecture, but I must disagree. Not always :) For instance, Kolomenskoye in Moscow or city Alexandrov (residence of Ivan the Terrible). All white and elegantKolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
There are very few Orthodox churches in the USA, most of them are probably in New York City due to its diverse immigrant population. Well..maybe also in San Francisco.Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
Orthodox churches are always colorful, often with golden roofs and lots of embellishments. That's what stands them apart from Catholic straight line Cathedrals, Lutheran and others churches. The pictures are always so vivid that it almost feels like they've been color-enhanced. Until you visit those places.Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
Too colorful? What about this? :)Kolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
Those churches are too colorful. Viva la USAKolomna: nice architecture and delicious Russian "marshmallow"
